Sources of Aransas Pass Electricity Rates

The electricity grid that serves Aransas Pass gets its power from several different sources.   The Texas electricity grid is separated from the other two major grids that provide power to the United States.

Most of the electric energy produced in Texas comes from natural gas fueled power plants.  Coal has historically also been a major source of fuel for Texas power plants.  But the contribution of coal to the Texas electricity grid has waned for the past couple of decades due to a host of environmental and economic reasons.

Renewable energy continues to grow in Texas.  The Lone Star State has more wind power than any other state in the U.S.  Wind generated electricity can now account for more of the power in the grid than any other single source on mild windy days in Texas.  This makes Texas an unlikely leader in green energy production.

Most electric companies in Aransas Pass, TX now offer at least one 100% renewable energy electricity plan.  As the price of both wind power and solar power continues to fall green energy plans are more competitive than ever.  These days it’s not at all uncommon to find green energy plans that are less expensive than plans that feature electricity generated from traditional sources.

Early Termination Fee on the Electricity Plans

No one likes to pay unnecessary fees.  Fortunately, the Aransas Pass electricity providers have been very good at keeping excess charges to a minimum.

There is one fee, however, that all providers can use if an electricity customer is using nefarious tactics to obtain the cheapest electricity rate.  The Early Termination Fee (ETF) was put into place to combat customers who have no intention of meeting the parameters for the electricity plan they have selected.

For most electricity consumers, the Early Termination Fee will never be an issue.  By keeping your electricity plan until the plan’s termination date has been reached, you avoid being charged the fee.

Even if you move to a new residence before the electricity plan is up, you most likely will not be charged the fee.  As long as you can verify that you no longer live at the previous location, the electricity providers generally do not charge the Early Termination Fee.
