In Callahan County, Clyde is a small sized city in Central Texas. The most recent population measurement puts Clyde at the 419th largest city in Texas with a population of 3,900 people total. Population has been steadily rising over the years for the community. On the map the nearest major Texas city is Abilene, which is 15 miles away. The city was believed to have been founded around the year 1976. The origin of the name has since been debated, but most don’t know the exact reason why Texas is called “Clyde”. The most notable explanation is that someone who worked for the Texas and Pacific Railway Company probably inspired the namesake.
