Is One Electricity Provider Really That Different From Another?

When it comes to price, which is the most important thing to most consumers, the answer is yes.  Electricity rates in Conroe can run a wide range of prices depending on who you choose as your electricity company.  From this standpoint there is a huge difference between electricity providers.

When it comes to receiving your electricity and the reliability of service, there is absolutely no difference from one provider to the next.  In fact, the same utility company is responsible for delivering electricity to your area regardless of the electricity provider you select for your home.  You will not notice the difference between one electric provider and the next until your bill arrives.

Aside from price, there are a handful of differences between electricity providers.   Some have higher credit requirements than others.  Some offer prepaid service.  Others are exclusively postpaid.  This is the more traditional model where you pay your bill after receiving your electricity.

Prepaid electricity works a little like a prepaid cell plan or debit card.  You pay for your electricity beforehand.  The cost of any electricity you use is deducted from your existing balance.

Most providers offer paperless billing and autopay options.  Most of them prefer to do as much as possible online.  This helps keep their costs down and allows them to offer lower rates.

Sources of Electricity for Conroe

Coal, which was once the most important source of electricity in Texas, has been declining in importance for decades.  It is natural gas power plants that provides more than half of the electricity sold by Conroe, TX electric companies.  There are many advantages to producing electricity with natural gas.  Power plants that produce electricity by burning natural gas make it much easier to maintain grid stability.  They can rapidly increase or decrease the amount of power they are producing.  This helps stabilize the electric grid by keeping available supply in line with the real-time demand for electricity.

Natural gas burns cleaner and is cheaper than coal.  There is also a lot of it underground in Texas.  The state is the largest producer of natural gas in the country.  New technologies have grown the amount of economically viable natural gas reserves within the state.   The often controversial practice of fracking has led to a steep drop in prices for natural gas.

Cheap electricity rates in Conroe, TX are a direct result of the falling price of natural gas.

Wind power has also risen to become one of the most important sources of power in Texas thanks to technology and government subsidies that have led to a dramatic drop in the cost of wind power.  Today, Texas has more installed wind capacity than any other state.  This has led to a growth in the number of renewable energy plans available in Conroe while at the same time lowering the cost of green energy.
