Available Now – No Deposit Electricity In Granbury

If you are reading this, chances are you have been asked to pay a deposit by one or more electric company.   This is very common in Texas where electric companies routinely run credit checks before starting service.  There are some ways you might be able to avoid paying that large deposit.

Every electricity provider is free to maintain their own set of credit requirements, but you can get electricity with no credit check.  They are not required to ask for a deposit, but they are required by the PUC to offer a deposit waiver if the customer falls under certain categories.  If you have been asked to pay a deposit by one electricity provider, you can always try another one.  The second company could offer you a no deposit electricity plan or they could require for a smaller amount.

If any of these fit your circumstances, you may be eligible to avoid a deposit:
–              You’re 65 years or older and not behind in payment with another electric provider
–              Have recent history (past 24 months) of on-time payment with another electric provider
–              Are medically indigent
–              Have been a victim of family violence

If any of these apply to you, you will have to provide proof to the electric company to obtain your waiver.

Why Do the Granbury Electric Companies Have to Run Credit Checks?

The business of electric companies in Granbury is to buy electricity wholesale and resell it to consumers.  In the process they take on pricing risk and allow more predicable pricing for the end user.  Since they must pay the power plants for the electricity they buy of the grid on behalf of their customers, they want to make sure they are going to get paid on the other end.

That’s where credit checks come in.  These types of credit check don’t impact credit score but they will help the provider decide if a deposit is required.  A very high percentage of people who enroll in an electricity plan are asked to pay a deposit.

It is up to each company to set its own credit thresholds.  So, if you are asked to pay a deposit with one provider, you may have better luck with another one.

What Do the EFLs of the Granbury Electricity Plans Tell Me?

Every electricity plan listed for sale in Granbury must have a document called the Electricity Facts Label (EFL).  Just like a nutrition label, the EFL lets you know what’s included in your electricity plan.  It tells you how much of your electricity will come from green energy sources, what the cancelation fee is and what the contract length is.

More importantly, the EFL will contain all the information you need to know about the plan and will show you the rate formula that is used to calculate your energy bill at the end of each billing cycle.  Every plan marketed in Texas must publish an average all-in rate for three benchmark usage levels: for 500 kWH, 1000 kWh, and 2000 kWh per month.  At the top of the EFL you will find a list of each of these benchmark average electricity rates.

The EFL will list every cost, fee, rate, and credit included in your electricity bill, so you can understand how the average rate is calculated.

It will list any bill credits or fees that may apply within certain usage ranges for each billing cycle.  Credits that apply only within certain narrow ranges of kWhs in usage can make the published electricity rates only theoretical if you are not likely to have your electricity usage fall within that range.

You can also read the EFL to learn about the other fine print that comes along with the plan.  Every plan listed on Vaultelectricity.com will have an EFL link.

You will notice that commercial electricity plans do not have EFLs.
