Why Must Electricity Companies Run Credit Checks?

Electric companies in Texas make a profit by buying electricity of the grid at wholesale prices and reselling it to consumers.  In the process they take on pricing risk and allow more predicable pricing for the end user.  Since they are obligated to pay the power plants for the power they sell, they want to make sure they are going to get paid by the end consumer of the electricity.

That’s why they usually require credit checks to turn on service.  These types of credit check won’t negatively impact a person’s credit score, but they will help the provider determine if they want to require a deposit.  A surprisingly high percentage of people who sign-up for an energy plan are asked to pay a deposit.

It is up to each company to set its own credit requirements.  So, if you are required to pay a deposit with one provider, you may have better luck with another one.

Where Does Iowa Park Get Its Electricity?

Although it was once the main source of electricity in Texas, coal has been on the decline for decades.  Today, over half of Iowa Park Texas electricity comes from natural gas power plants.  There are a number of advantages to producing electricity with natural gas.  Power plants that produce electricity by burning natural gas can quickly increase or decrease output to help stabilize the electric grid by keeping available supply in line with the real-time demand for electricity.

Natural gas is also cheaper and burns cleaner than coal.  It is also plentiful in the state of Texas.  Texas is the largest producer of natural gas in the country.  New drilling techniques have made several new fields economically viable when a decade ago they would have been too expensive to extract.

The falling price of natural gas has led directly to cheap Iowa Park electricity rates.

Technology and government subsidies have also led to a dramatic drop in the cost of wind power.  Today, Texas has more installed wind capacity than any other state.  This has led to a growth in the number of green energy plans available in Iowa Park while at the same time lowering the cost of renewable energy plans.
