As sources say, the land that would become Nacogdoches was first inhabited around 10,000 years ago near the main Nacogdoche tribe village. It has flown under nine flags (including the Texas six). The Battle of Nacogdoches resulted in Texan sovereignty over the township and later, the city was incorporated in 1929.

Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas lived in Nacogdoches for a few years. And Clint Dempsey of US Soccer fame was born in the city. In addition, here’s another fun fact about Nacogdoches, Texas: it is home to Texas’ biggest Azalea Garden.

The climate of Nacogdoches is humid and hot during the summer and relatively cold during the winters. Most natural disasters that occur are hurricane and flood related.

The top employers in the city are Pilgrim’s Pride, Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches ISD, Etech, Inc., Walmart, and the City of Nacogdoches to name a few. The median household income is below the state average, but the cost of living is extremely low, so the low wages earned average out.
