Why Should I Compare The Woodlands Electricity Rates?

When the Texas legislature decided to deregulate the Texas electricity marketplace it was to keep electricity rates low and create an environment of innovation by opening it up to competition.

The previous utility monopolies were broken up to create separate retail and utility delivery companies.  Electricity in Texas is still delivered to your home by regional monopolies who are also responsible for maintaining the infrastructure.

On the retail side of the market many new companies started up to compete against the existing companies.  This means that in The Woodlands and other deregulated parts of Texas, you can choose your retail electric provider based on price.  And you don’t have to worry about reliability of service because all electricity is delivered in the same way.

Since price is really the primary difference between electric companies, there is no reason not to shop for the cheapest electricity rates in The Woodlands, TX and switch providers when you can save.

Tips for Comparing the Cheapest Electricity Providers

When you compare The Woodlands electricity rates for different plans, it is critical that you are looking at the rates for the usage level corresponding to the size of your home and your average electricity usage.

Standard usage levels for plan pricing in Texas are:

500 kWh – Representing and average apartment
1000 kWh – Representing a small to medium home
2000 kWh – Representing a larger home

The way many electricity plans are priced can result in a very different average electricity rate for these 3 levels.  If, for example, you live in an apartment and you are comparing rates based on the 2000 kWh usage rates, you may find yourself choosing a much more expensive electricity plan than you realize.
