Learn a Bit About Victoria TX

Victoria was named after General Guadalupe Victoria, who would go on to become Mexico’s first president. It is the county seat of Victoria County and ranks 56th in size in the state with a population of 67,100. The city was founded in 1824. Stone Cold Steve Austin, the famous wrestler, was born in Austin, Texas and later was moved to Victoria when he was just an infant.

The economy of Victoria centers on a lot of different retail businesses and the health, educational, and industrial sectors. Some of the biggest employers in the city are Formosa Plastics Corp, Dow, Invista, and Alcoa. Unemployment is below the state average and the wages earned are slightly below the national and state averages. The most common occupations include the following: Sales, Administration, Construction, Health Services, Social Assistance, Educational Services, and more.

The most common degrees obtained in the area were in concentrations of Accounting, Business, Nursing, Psychology, and Multidisciplinary Studies. The University of Houston-Victoria and Victoria College are the two largest learning institutions in the area. The average tuition cost was about 4,576 for in-state students. The majority of graduates are Caucasian females. The total number of Hispanic graduates is not far behind with more than 30% of all graduates constituting the Hispanic ethnicity.

Be prepared to provide your social security number or DL# for the credit check.  There are no credit check electricity plans in Victoria.  These are usually prepaid plans.  Most post-paid plans, however, require a soft credit check.  It won’t have any effect on your credit score. You will also need to make sure you have the correct and complete address of the location you are getting service for and a billing address if it is different.

You will be asked for a requested start date.  In some cases, you can get electricity turned on as early as the same day.  Usually it’s the next day at the earliest.  If you are currently under a contract with another provider, you will want to coordinate the state date with the new provider with the expiration date of your current plan to avoid paying early termination fees.  You can usually select a start date as much as two months in the future while locking in an electricity rate.
