Where Does Salado Electricity Come From?

Electricity in Salado comes from all over Texas. The Texas electric grid is the largest independent grid in the U.S. Texas is the only state in the country with its own electric grid with little connection with the other main power grids in North America.

As a result of this all electricity used in Salado is produced within the state.

Due to a large investment in infrastructure over last decade, the abundant wind energy generated in west Texas can be transmitted all over the state to meet demand. No other state has the amount of wind energy capacity Texas has.

A small percentage of the power consumed in Texas comes from nuclear power. This percentage is very unlikely to increase any time in the foreseeable future. The economics just don’t favor nuclear power in Texas.

Despite the impressive growth of renewable energy Texas, coal and natural gas still provide most electricity in Salado and elsewhere in Texas. It is cheap natural gas that has helped maintain cheap electricity rates in Salado for several years.

Salado, Texas Is a Great Place

In the central part of Texas lies the city of Salado. Last checked the population was about 2,300 total people, meaning that it ranked 560th in total population size in the state. It is in Bell County, next to the cities of Temple, South Bell, Belton, Nolanville, Bartlett, Harker Heights, and Holland. A few famous former and current residents of Solado are the journalist Liz Carpenter, Scott Cawthon, a video game designer and most known for his Five Nights at Freddy’s games, and Texas Governor Miriam Amanda Ferguson. Another interesting thing to note is that the city has the oldest hotel in Texas that is still running today, the Stagecoach Inn.

Historically, the city was settled before its official founding date of 1850, but turmoil and adverse relations with the Native Americans in the area made it hard for the original European settlers. During the year of 1850, Archibald Willingham settled the Salado area and a post office was set up a couple of years later in 1852. The Chisholm Trail was right next to Salado and the Stagecoach inn–as its name suggests–did a lot of business throughout the years.

Currently, the economy is driven by Retail, Science and Tech positions, as well as Education, and Healthcare jobs.
