Where Does Sugar Land Electricity Come From?
Texas produces a lot of electricity, being home to the second largest population and the second largest economy in the U.S. Texas is, in fact, the largest producer of electricity in the country. All of the electricity in Sugar Land comes from the state’s very own electricity grid, the only such statewide grid in the continental U.S.
Most Texas electricity comes from natural gas power plants. Over half of the power sold by electric companies in Sugar Land, TX comes from natural gas. The Texas electric grid has come to rely heavily on natural gas because it is cheap, abundant and produced right here in Texas. The state is the leading natural gas producer in the country.
Wind energy has recently passed coal to become the second largest source of the electricity that powers Sugar Land and other parts of Texas. Thousands of west Texas wind turbines provide power to much of the state. A recent massive investment in infrastructure by the state build the high capacity transmission lines that move this power to Sugar Land and other parts of Texas.

At a minimum, you may find that another provider asks you for a smaller deposit.
If this option doesn’t work for you, you can enroll in a prepaid electricity plan. Prepaid electricity plans are very popular in Texas. Usually, you can get your lights turned on for $50 or less. This money is not a deposit. You are paying for the electricity will be using in advance.

Sugar Land got its name due to the sugar plantation that was near the Brazos River. This area eventually grew more and more populous, being incorporated as a city in 1959. It is also the homebase of Imperial Sugar, meaning that its reputation as a “Sugar Land” is an apt appellation for the economy. The population is about 88,500 currently making it the 41st most populous city in Texas. The city has been voted one of the physically fittest cities in the state of Texas, as well as a top 100 cities to live in the country.
The economy of Sugar Land is driven by the Fort Bend ISD, Schlumberger (oil), Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, Fluor, United Healthcare, Nalco, Tramontina, and First Data. The city is also home to a Fortune 500 headquarters: CVR Energy, Inc. There are multiple tech, software, energy, and engineering firms within the city as well.
For great things to do, the Houston Museum of Natural History at Sugar Land is great fun; and Sugar Land Memorial Park is a great place to spend an afternoon. And the city of Houston is just 18 miles away, so a day trip to the city is always a viable option for those who need to get away.
