How much Texas Electricity Comes From Solar Energy?
In 2016, there were 2,350 megawatts of installed solar power in Texas. That is enough to power over 700,000 homes. Including the photovoltaic cell panels themselves, solar energy contributes about 2 percent of Texas’s electricity generation. Growth in this sector has been largely driven by a state program where customers can receive a credit on their bills when they generate renewable energy. The state also has some of the highest potential for utility-scale solar development in the country.
Chariot Energy specializes exclusively in solar energy. But many other electricity providers in Texas offer plans that feature solar power. One example if the TXU Free Nights and Solar Days plan.
