Learn a Bit About Cisco, Texas
The city of Cisco has its roots back in the year 1879 when Rev. C. G. Stevens set up a post office and church and originally named the settled land “Red Gap”. Just a couple years later, the Houston and Central Texas Railway intersected the already laid Texas and Pacific in the Red Gap area. And then 3 years later, the city was officially founded and the name was changed to Cisco after John A. Cisco a financier who had a major part in building the Houston and Central Texas Railway.
The city was later incorporated in 1921. And little known fact about the city of Cisco is that Conrad Hilton, of Hilton Hotel fame, started the hotel chain in Cisco. And in 1929, the famous Santa Claus Bank Robbery happened when a group of robbers tried to rob the First National Bank in Cisco. On the map, the city is in central Texas, and Abilene is the nearest major city in Texas about 45 miles away. Last checked the population totaled about 3,800.
