Tips for Comparing Electric Companies in Kilgore
The most common mistake made by Texans when shopping for cheaper electricity in Kilgore, it not looking at the correct rates. For each plan market in Texas you will see three different benchmark rates. These represent the average electricity rate you should expect from the plan based on how much electricity you typically use.
If you live in a larger home, you should be looking at the 2000 kWh rates. If you live in an apartment, you should be looking at the 500 kWh rates. If your home falls somewhere in between, the 1000 kWh rate is probably closer to your usage level.
Some plans look very attractive at 2000 kWhs but turn out to be quite expensive if you use less electricity than that.
One example of how this may happen is with usage credits. For example, a plan may offer a usage credit that kicks in once you use over 2000 kWhs in a billing cycle. This would have the effect of lowering your average electricity rate by 1 cent per hour once your usage hits 2000. But if you use less than that you will not get the benefit of the $20 bill credit. This will make your average rate higher than someone who uses more than 2000 kWh.
