Why Do Missouri City Electric Companies Run Credit Checks?

Different players in the Texas electricity market have different roles to play.  Electric companies in Missouri City don’t own the power plants and equipment that generates the power they sell.  They just sell electricity.  They don’t make it.  Electricity is produced by companies that own and operate the power plants and wind turbines.

Your electricity provider must purchase this power from the source before it can sell it to consumers.  If someone skips out on their bill, the electric company is still obligated to pay the producers for that power.  This isn’t just lost revenue.  It creates a loss for the electric company.

For this reason, Missouri City electric companies put a lot of effort into to ensuring their customers will pay their bills.  Often, this means requiring a deposit.  Running a credit check allows them to determine whether they want to ask for a deposit before enrolling someone in an electricity plan.

Missouri City No Deposit Electricity Plan Options

Electric companies in Missouri City run credit checks on people who sign-up for electricity.  If  the credit check meets their requirements, no deposit is required.

Often, however, they can demand a deposit before initiating service at your address.  When this happens, there are a few things you can try.

You can enroll with a different electric company.  Each electricity provider sets their own credit requirements and they are often different from each other.  If one provider requires a deposit, another provider may offer you a no deposit electricity because of their easier credit requirements.  At a minimum, you may find that another provider asks you for a smaller deposit.

If this option doesn’t work for you, you can enroll in a prepaid electricity plan.  Prepaid electricity plans are a very popular option in Texas right now.  Usually, you can get your lights turned on for $50 or less.  This money is not a deposit.  You are paying in advance for the electricity you will be using when your power is turned on.
