Why Compare Electric Companies in Monahans

The electricity provider you choose will have big impact your electric bill.  But it will have zero impact on how your power is delivered or the reliability of your electric service.  All electricity in Monahans is delivered through the same powerlines by the same underlying utility no matter what retail electric provider you choose.

The most important difference between providers (and the thing that’s most important to many people) is price.  Each provider is free to set their own electricity rates.  This results in a situation where the difference in rate between providers can be massive.   Even different plans offered by the same providers often have widely divergent electricity rates.   That’s what makes it so critical to research and compare.

Although for most shopper price is the most important consideration, it’s not the only difference you will find.  Electric companies in Texas sell plans with different contract lengths (3 months, 6 months, 12 months, etc.…)  and special feature like rewards programs.  You can choose from traditional or green energy.  You will also find that credit requirements and cancelation fees will be different from one provider to the next.

The only way to know who is offering the best rates today is to put the providers along with all their plans together in one place and compare them side-by-side.  The Vault electricity rate comparison tool allows you to do that.

Tips for Comparing Electric Plans in Monahans

The process of comparing electricity rates in Monahans should begin with making sure you are looking at the right rates.  Our electricity rate comparison tool gives you the ability to select your home size to automatically see the rates for each plan that are closest to the size of your home.  Rates will be different depending on how much electricity you use.

Texas electricity plans are priced at three different benchmark usage levels intended to represent homes of 3 different sizes.

If you don’t look at the correct rates when you are selecting the best plan for you it can cost you when your first light bill arrives.   The rate calculation formula for electricity plans are often finetuned to be cheapest at specific usage levels.

If you live in an apartment, be sure to compare based on the 500 kWh rates.  If you live in a home, you will want to look at either the 1000 kWh or 2000 kWh rates depending how many kWhs of electricity you use in a typical month.  Check your past bills if you are unsure how much electricity you use.

Sources of Monahans Electricity

Home to the second largest population and the second largest economy in the U.S., it’s understandable that Texas generates a lot of electricity.  Texas is the largest producer of electricity in the country.   All of the electricity in Monahans comes from the state’s self-contained electricity grid with a negligible contribution from roof top solar.

Most of the power that is fed into the Texas electricity grid comes from natural gas fueled power plants.  Today more than half of all Texas electricity comes from natural gas.  This is because natural gas is abundant, cheap, and produced right here in Texas.  The state leads the nation in natural gas production.

Perhaps unexpectedly, it is wind energy that is the second biggest source of the electricity that powers Monahans and other parts of Texas.  Thanks to thousands of west Texas wind turbines, the state produces more electricity from wind than any other state.  Massive power lines move this power to Monahans and other parts of Texas.

Other sources of electricity include coal (once the largest source of electricity in Texas), nuclear, geothermal and solar.  The production of solar electricity is expected to grow substantially over the next few years.

Monahans, Texas – Looking Past Cheap Electricity Rates

The county seat of Ward County, Monahans is a Texas city with a population of about 7,500 people total. This means that it is 284th in size for most populous city in the entire state. Actress Natalie Zea is affiliated with the city, as well as Golf Hall of Famer Kathy Whitworth.

On the map it is in western end of the state next to the cities of Thortonville, Wickett, Wink, Kermit, and further away, Odessa, Texas (37 miles). For things to do in the Monahans area, one can go to the Monahans Sandhills State Park, and the Million Barrel Museum, which was a giant barrel built to hold a million barrels of crude oil at a very prominent oil field in the area.

When considering the city from a historical standpoint, it was an establishment all the way back through the 1880’s, while the Texas and Pacific Railway was being constructed through the land. And when John Thomas Monahan–the surveyor for whom the city is named after–worked with the Texas and Pacific Railway and dug a water well in the area because the rail workers needed water while working on that particular part, he found a lot of good, clean water. A community sprung from around that water source. And then one oil was found as well, shortly after, the community would hit its stride and keep growing. And currently, the economy is still going strong.
