Dangers of Using Power To Choose
Our team are experts at spotting plans that aren’t what they seem. Sadly, there are many “too good to be true” electricity plans advertised on television and online. There are electricity providers that we will not list because they haven’t met our standards of honesty, stability, and transparency. There are electric plans we will not list because they aren’t what they seem. This is done to protect the people who use our free service. If a plan looks too good to be true, it probably is – and we won’t have it on our site.
Featured Electricity Rates In Sweeny, Texas
Where Does the Sweeny Electricity Come From?
With the second largest economy and population and in the U.S., Texas must generate a lot of electricity to keep up with its power needs. Since Texas is the only state in the mainland U.S. that maintains its own independent electricity grid, Texas is the largest producer of electricity in the country. All of the electricity in Sweeny comes from the state’s self-contained electricity grid.
Most of the power that goes into the Texas electricity grid comes from natural gas fueled power plants. More Texas electricity comes from natural gas than all other sources combined. This is because natural gas is cheap, abundant and produced right here in Texas. The state leads the nation in natural gas production.
The second most important source of the electricity that powers Sweeny and other parts of Texas is wind energy. Thanks to the thousands of wind turbines that have been built in west Texas, the state produces more electricity from wind than any other state and, in fact, more than most other countries. Massive transmission lines move this power to Sweeny and every other part of Texas.
Other sources of electricity include coal, nuclear, geothermal and solar. The production of solar electricity is expected to grow by a large degree in coming years.
What Does an Electricity Plan’s EFL Tell Me?
To understand how the rates on your electricity plan are calculated as well as what fees are involved, you must refer to the EFL. No two electricity plans in Sweeny are the same. There are a few common elements, however. Cancelation fees, contract lengths, are two such items.
But when it comes to the way plans are priced, electricity providers have a great deal of discretion. The EFL (Electricity Facts Label) is a standardized document all Sweeny electricity providers are required to release for every plan they sell.
You should be able to look at a plan’s EFL and see exactly what goes in to the electricity rate that is being advertised for a particular plan.
Things you would expect to see in an EFL include:
- Average electricity rates for 500, 1000, and 2000 kWhs of monthly usage
- Cancelation Fees
- Contract Length
- The price per kWh for different tiers if your plan is a tiered plan
- Any other fees and cost associated with the plan
- Fees assessed by the Transmission & Distribution Utility in your area (The TDU for the DFW area in ONCOR. In the Houston area it is Centerpoint)
- Energy usage charges
- Monthly billing charges
Useful Information on Sweeny, Texas
Sweeny, Texas lies within the southeastern part of the state in Brazoria County. Recent estimates rank this city as the 423rd largest city in the state with a population of about 3,800 total people. It is near the cities of Wild Peach Village, Brazoria, Holiday Lakes, Lake Jackson, Van Vleck, and Brazosport.
Historically, the city was settled a long time ago, before Texas had even formed as Republic. The whole plot of land that would later become Sweeny was obtained in 1824. The city wasn’t formed until later, but the necessary pieces were already in place. After more land grants were purchased in the area by a colonist named John Sweeny, eventually a town was formed with his surname. The St. Louis, Brownsville, and Mexico Railway cut through the land in 1905, a few years after the first post office was set up, as well as a general store and other commercial establishments. Oil was later discovered in nearby Old Ocean in the 1930’s and the city had the assurance of opulence because of that discovery.
Currently, the economy is driven by Manufacturing by a large margin. Some other industries that contribute a lot to the workforce are in Retail, Finance, and Education. The wages earned are below the national average, but the cost of living for citizens is lower than the norm.
Early Termination Fees of Electricity Plans
Cancellation fees, also known as Early Termination Fees (ETFs), should be considered when you compare the cheapest electricity rates in Sweeny. Although they are rarely assessed, you don’t want to be caught off guard on your last electric bill from your previous electricity provider.
Cancellation fees will be charged if you switch away from your electric provider before your contract term has been met. This protects the electric provider from people trying to game the system by hopping from one electric company to another in short order.
Most people using electricity in Sweeny do not plan on using these tactics, so the fees are rarely charged. In fact, even if you do need to terminate the electricity service early because you are moving to a new residence, the fees usually do not come into play. As long as you can verify that you ended the electricity because you moved, the fee is usually waived.
As always, read through the terms of the cheapest electricity plan you have selected to make sure you will not affected by the fees.
