Competition is the key to reducing prices in any market.  The Texas electricity market is not different.

Electricity rates in Texas change a lot.  Providers are constantly jockeying for position at the top of our list of the cheapest rates.  The plans they offer are mostly 12 month plans.  Though other contract lengths between 3 months and 36 months are also available.

Once the term of your plan ends, the company will usually offer to put you on another 12 month plan.   The rate on this 12 month plan may be the lowest rate available by any provider.  But it’s probably not.  That’s why you should compare this offer to other offers currently listed on Vault Electricity and choose the plan that works for you.

If you decided not to sign up for a new plan with your current provider, they will gladly keep you on with month to month pricing.  This is a mistake.  You will almost surely be paying more than you should.

When Your Electricity Plan is About to Expire

When shopping for electricity in Texas, the contract is your friend.  A typical contract length is 12 months.  Although they can go as low as 3 months to as long as 36 months for residential electricity plans.  For commercial electricity they can go even longer.

If you are not in a contract, you are on a monthly plan.  Such plans usually come with higher rates.  If you have never shopped for cheaper electricity or switched providers, chances are, you are paying way more than you would be paying if you were under a 12 month plan.

If you are currently under a set length plan, your provider will probably be contacting you near the end of your term to offer you a chance to renew or switch to a new plan.  This is a perfect time to return to Vault Electricity and compare that offer to rates and plans being offered by other providers in the market.

If you find a better rate elsewhere, it is defiantly to your benefit to switch to a new provider.   You can sign up for a new plan up to two months in advance of the end date of your current contract.  You will just need to select a start date for the new plan that coincides with the end date of your current plan. The new provider will take care of the switching for you.

Thinking of Relocating to Spring, Texas?

Originally the site of just a trading post next to Spring Creek, the city of Spring expanded once the International and Great Northern Railroad was built. The population began to grow, steam and grist mills were built, churches, a railroad roundhouse, and what would become a switchyard for the complex, interconnected business of unloading, stationing, and sorting out multiple operations at once on the tracks. But eventually the whole operation was moved to Houston.

An interesting fact about the city is that the notorious outlaw couple Bonnie and Clyde was said to have robbed the Spring State Bank during the 1930’s. In addition to Spring’s notoriety, the Big Bang Theory actor Jim Parsons went to high school in Spring. And stand-up comedian Tig Notaro grew up in Spring.

The median household income is above average in Spring, but housing values and appreciation appear to even out the overall picture. On the map, Northwest Harris is about 11 miles away, and Houston is 20 miles from Spring. The population was close to 54,000 when last officially checked. The city is relatively diverse with a strong African American and Hispanic presence in addition to the Caucasian population.

For most common industries in the city, Retail and Transportation and Warehousing are the biggest.

Does Every Electric Company Run a Credit Check?

The short answer is that electricity providers want to make sure they are likely to get paid.  Performing a credit check helps them assess the risk of default before enrolling someone.

Different companies have different credit thresholds. But if these thresholds are not met, they will ask for a deposit.  The deposit amount varies from company to company and depends on several factors including the credit score and the anticipated electricity usage for the address being enrolled.

Electricity providers must pay the power producers for the electricity they sell to consumers.  If someone fails to pay their light bill, the electric company still has to pay the producers of the power they delivered to an address.

Compare Electricity Rates in Spring

One of the things that makes comparing electricity rates in Spring so difficult is that the way plans are priced can be complex – often overly so.  When you blend in monthly flat fees with per kWh fees with usage credits and penalties based on usage levels you end up with a plan whose average rate changes dramatically based on how much power you use.

The mandated discloser documents that must be included with all electricity plans sold in Texas include the average electricity rates based on a home that uses 500 kWh per month in electricity, or 1000 kWh or 2000 kWh.  This means that every plan has three distinct published average rates.

In some cases, a provider may structure a plan to have the most attractive rate at 2000 kwh while anyone who enrolls in the plan but only uses 1000 kWh may have a much higher average rate.

If you live in a house that uses closer to 1000 kWh per month for electricity on average, you should be looking at the 1000 kWh rates, not the 2000 kWh rates.

How Do Electricity Plan Cancellation Fees Work?

Other than month-to-month no contract plans, most electricity plans include a cancellation fee.  A typical fee for a 12 month plan is $150.  Although, this amount will vary by provider and by plan.

If you are moving, you can typically get the cancellation fee waived.  Although, some providers may require you to give a certain amount of notice and provide a forwarding address for the final bill.

Find the Cheapest Commercial Electricity In Spring, TX

Shopping for commercial electricity plans is all together a different thing. Because businesses in Spring can use anywhere from a small amount to a huge amount of electricity, commercial rates do not come as a “one size fits all” product.

For businesses that use less than 300,000 kWh of electricity per year, we use the daily commercial rates that the top electric companies give us each day.  Because all of the top power providers give us daily commercial rate updates, we know who offers the best commercial electricity rates in Spring each day.

For businesses that use larger quantities of electricity, we use our blind reverse auction.   This allows providers to actively compete against each other to be your next electricity provider. Because it is a blind auction, the power providers do not know what rates their competitors are offering.  This forces them to be very aggressive with the electricity rates they offer your business.

At the conclusion of the auction, we present you with the three best offers.  We clearly explain each offering and present you with our recommendation.  Once you decide on an electricity plan, we will handle all of the details involved in the switch, making the process as seamless and as easy as possible.
