Bartlett Electric Cooperative was established in 1935.

They offer electricity to communities located to the south of Killeen and Temple in Central Texas. This electric company currently has almost 13,000 customers.

Like most electric co-ops, they are member owned and non-profit.

They were the first electric company in the nation to be activated under President Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Act.

This brought modern electricity to area farms and other rural customers.

Bartlett EC does not have any electricity generation capabilities.

Because of this, they have to purchase all of the electricity they distribute to their customers. They are a member of the Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, which means they purchase all of their electricity through that group.
