Houston County Electric Cooperative

Houston County Electric Cooperative is an average sized co-op electric company with 22,000 customers.  Of those 22,000 clients, 20,500 of them are rural residential electricity accounts, 1440 are commercial, and 10 are industrial.

Houston County EC does not produce any electricity in-house, which means they must purchase all of the electricity they provide to their customers.  They purchase it wholesale from the Texas electricity grid, then they sell it with a mark-up charge to their customer base.

HCEC does offer net metering to those interested in installing solar panes or a wind turbine on their property.  Net metering is a fantastic way for those who have access and want it, as they can make money off their excess energy. By installing solar panels on your home or business you are able to produce electricity that may already exceed what’s being used at any given time.
