How Are the Ennis Electricity Rates Determined?

You may be surprised to learn that even with a “fixed rate” electricity plan, your real electricity rate is probably going to be different each month. In an ideal world, your electricity bill would be determined by multiplying your electricity rate times the number of kilowatt hours you use each billing cycle. But in the real world of Ennis electricity, that’s not how it works.

With very few exceptions, published electricity rates are the result of an algorithm that is unique to each plan. These formulas can be simple or complicated. They include multiple fees, rates, tiered levels, pass through fees, and bill credits.

Compare plans for your home

Your plan’s billing formula is applied at the end of each billing cycle to determine how much money you owe the electric company. It is only after this that you will know what your real electricity rate for the month was. Hopefully, it will be close to the rate that was advertised when you signed up for your plan. But that’s not guaranteed.

When comparing electricity rates between different Ennis electricity providers, you are usually comparing the electricity rate at one of three different hypothetical usage levels (500 kWh, 1000 kWh, and 2000 kWh).

Every electricity provider in Texas must provide this information in the discloser document for every plan they sell.

When you are using our website to compare electricity rates make certain that you are looking at the usage level that is closest to what you expect to use on average each month.

When Should You Plan to Renew Your Electricity Rate?

When shopping for electricity in Texas, the contract is your friend. A typical contract length is 12 months. Although they be shorter or can be as long as 36 months for residential electricity plans. For commercial electricity they can go even longer.

If you are currently under a contract, your provider will probably be contacting you near the end of your term to offer you a chance to renew or switch to a new plan. This is a perfect time to return to Vault Electricity and compare the new rate they are offering to rates and plans being offered by other providers in the market.

If you do find a better rate elsewhere, it is to your benefit to switch to a new provider. You can sign up for a new plan up to two months in advance of the end date of your current contract. You just have to set a start date for the new plan that coincides with the end date of your current plan. The new provider will take care of the switching for you.

If you are not in a contract, you are on a monthly plan. Monthly plans tend to come with higher rates. If you have never shopped for cheaper electricity or switched providers, most likely, you are paying way more than you would be paying if you were under a 6 or 12 month plan.
