My Electricity Plan is Expiring – What Should I do Now?

Sometime near the end of your current plan, your electricity provider will probably contact you with an offer for a new plan to replace your current plan when it expires.  This new plan may have a better or worse electricity rate depending on what the market as a whole is doing and how aggressive the provider is currently being with their own pricing.

Before you commit to anything you should compare this offer with other plans being offered by other electricity providers.  There is a very good chance you can find a better rate with another provider.  If you do find a better rate somewhere else, you can enroll in a new plan with a start date in the future; as much as 60 days in some cases.  When the date arrives, your new provider will handle the switch.  There is no need to contact your current provider.

As for business owners, if the commercial electricity rates have moved higher since your current plan began, you need to start planning at least 90 days out.

Compare Electricity Rates For Gainesville Apartments

Most Texas energy plans are targeted for homes that use larger amounts of electricity.  Though some electricity plans are work out better for apartments than others.  The important thing is  that you are comparing rates at the 500 kWh usage level not 1000 or 2000 kWhs..  That’s about how many kilowatts of electricity a Gainesville apartment requires per month.  Electricity rates for a given provider can be a lot different at the 2000 kWh level than they are for the 500 kWh.

Electricity rates are inevitably higher for apartments than homes just because of the lower usage.   But, of course, the electric bill is usually much lower.  It’s just that you will normally pay more per kWh than a home that uses more electricity.

Since you are already paying a deposit for the apartment, why pay another one for your electricity?  The rates on the no deposit electricity plans are very competitive. That’s why no credit check electricity has become so popular.

Gainesville, Texas – More Than Just Finding the Cheapest Electricity Rates

Gainesville is the county seat of Cooks County. On the map, the city lies in the northern part of the state (in the Texoma region) about 29 miles from Denton and 46 miles from Plano. The population estimates put the city at 162nd largest city in the state with 16,400 people total. The crime is high in the city, but the unemployment is very low. The climate is hot, moderately humid throughout the year, and like most Texas cities, prone to Tornadoes. The city itself was founded in 1850 when it was originally named Liberty, Texas, unbeknownst to the inhabitants who didn’t know that Liberty was already an establishment in Texas. Instead, the name became Gainesville, named after the United States General Edmund Pendleton Gaines. The city was later incorporated in 1873 and would have a flourishing economy in ranching and farming.

The economy of Gainesville is largely driven by Zodiac Seats U.S., which employs over 2,000 people. The average wages earned for the Gainesville workforce is in the $44,100 range, which is below state average, but the cost of living in Gainesville is very cheap, making up for the lower wages earned. The most common occupations were in Manufacturing, Production, and Food Preparation.

How Gainesville Electricity Rates Are Set

You might be surprised to learn that even with a “fixed rate” electricity plan, your true electricity rate is almost certain to be different each month.  In a simpler world, your electricity bill would be determined by multiplying your electricity rate times the number of kilowatt hours you use each month.  But in the real world of Texas electricity rates, that’s not how it works.

With just a few exceptions, published electricity rates are the result of a formula that is unique to each plan.  These formulas can be simple or complicated.  They include multiple fees, rates, tiered levels, pass through fees, and bill credits.

At the end of each billing cycle, the formula specific to your plan is applied determine how much money you owe the electric company.  It is only after this that you will know what your true electricity rate will be.  If you are lucky, it will be close to the rate that was advertised when you signed up for your plan.  Sometimes it isn’t.

When comparing electricity rates between different Gainesville electricity providers, you are usually comparing the electricity rate at one of three different hypothetical usage levels (500 kWh, 1000 kWh, and 2000 kWh).

Every electricity provider in Texas must provide this information in the discloser document for every plan they sell.

When you are using our website to compare electricity rates you should make sure that you are looking at the usage level that is closest to what you expect your needs to be.
