Why Is There a Credit Check For the Electricity Plans?
Electric companies in Texas are in the business of buying electricity wholesale and reselling it to consumers. In the process they take on pricing risk and allow more predicable pricing for the end user. Since they have to pay the power plants for the electricity they sell, they want to make sure they are going to get paid on the other end.
That’s where credit checks come in. These types of credit check won’t negatively affect your credit score but they will help the provider decide if a deposit is required. A surprisingly high percentage of people who enroll in an electricity plan are asked to pay a deposit.
It is up to each company to set its own credit thresholds. So, if you are asked to pay a deposit with one provider, you may have better luck with another one.
Energy Saving Tips – Find Cheap Electricity
Did you know that your clothes dryer vent could be adding to your money on your monthly electric bill? There is one obvious reason for this and one not so obvious reason.
Beginning with the obvious, if your dryer vent is full of lint, your dryer is not able to do its job as efficiently as it should. A restricted vent allows less of the moist air to make it out of the dryer to the outside of your home. This means that in order to get your clothes dry, you dryer will have to run longer and consume more energy.
More importantly, a lint-clogged vent can lead to fire. It can also allow mold to grow in and around the vent lines, with moister trapped due to restricted air flow.
The is a second, more surprising, reason the dryer vent can be causing your electricity bill to be higher than necessary. If the outside outlet of the vent is placed too close to your exterior air conditioning unit, it is allowing lint to clog up the a/c unit’s condenser coils, this will lower the energy efficiency of your air conditioner.
This doesn’t mean you have to relocate your vent or a/c unit. But it does mean you need to regularly clean the coils with a hose. It only takes a couple of minutes, but the energy savings will be lasting.
Moving to Mesquite and Need New Electricity Service?
Mesquite is the 20th largest city in Texas. Most of it is in Dallas County, and the population is about 140,000 in total. And Mesquite holds the appellation: “The Rodeo Capital of the World.” It was founded in 1878 as a railway town; it was quickly incorporated as a city in 1887 where it did well economically due to its high production of cotton, corn, sugar, and other commodities. Because it was so close to the railway, distribution was made easy and profitable.
Mequite’s top employers are: UPS, the City of Mesquite, Sears, Pepsi, Texas Dept of Transportation-Dallas, and the Dallas Regional Medical Center. The most common jobs include positions in Administration, Sales, and Management. Wages earned are below average in the state, meaning that the median household income is close to $51,000.
For educational attainment, many denizens of Mesquite get Associate’s degrees in General Studies and Criminal Justice, in addition, Early Childhood Education is a frequent major.
On the map, Mesquite is 12 miles from Dallas, so there are plenty of things to do in the area. Some of the best are the Dallas Zoo, the Dallas Museum of Art, Six Flags Over Texas, and Fair Park.
Mesquite Electricity Providers
Cancellation Fees of Electricity Plans
Cancellation fees are pretty standard parts of an electricity contract. A typical cancellation fee for a 12 month plan is $125 – $200. Some companies preferred to charge per remaining month on the contract if you cancel. $20 per month is typical in this case. These fees apply if you are switching providers, but they are usually waived if you are moving out.

Enrolling in New Electricity Service
You need to have some information prepared for the sign up process. You will need the full address where you need service. Electricity providers in Texas use something called an ESID to identify service addresses. The electricity company can almost always get this number by looking up the address. If they can’t, they may ask you for this information. You should be able to find it on the last electric bill for that address.
You will also need to provide information used for the credit check process. This will include either your social security number or driver’s license number. Sometimes they will ask for a current of even a previous address.
You will be asked for a date when you want service to begin. This would be your move in date or whenever you need the lights turned on if you are moving to a new place. If you are switching providers, this would be a date corresponding to the end of your current contract if you are under one. If you aren’t under a contract, then just pick whatever date you want. Obviously, the sooner the better if your new plan will lower your electricity rates. Holidays and weekends may affect how quickly switches can be made.
